Wind Energy

Montana is rated number one in the nation for the potential of Class 3 and above
wind energy development. As awareness of Montana’s potential for wind development
increases, so does the demand for quality resources and materials about wind. The goal
of the MSU Extension Wind Energy Program is to provide resources and information
to help Montanans make informed decisions about wind energy.

Extension Wind Energy Program Information on many wind topics is available at all MSU Extension County Offices in the state. Information at the county level includes:
  • Basics of wind energy
  • Information on small wind systems
  • Publications on Wind for Schools
  • Public policy issues related to wind
  • Land leasing issues
  • Information on transmission of wind energy
  • Programs available to Native American wind energy developments
